Privacy Policy
In short
- There is no account. We do not ask for your name, email address or phone number.
- What is on your screen, what you touch and the files you send travel between your own devices, encrypted end to end. We cannot read them and we do not store them.
- There are no ads, no analytics and no trackers in the apps.
- To let your devices find each other, our server keeps a small technical record of each device. It is described below.
Who we are
Maenun is operated from the Republic of Korea. Personal data is the responsibility of the Maenun privacy contact; for anything about this policy, write to maenunmirror@gmail.com.
What we do not collect
- Your name, email address, phone number or any other account details — the apps have no sign-up.
- Screen contents, touch and key input, and files or photos you send to a device.
- Contacts, location, photos, advertising identifiers.
- Usage statistics or crash reports. The apps contain no analytics or advertising software.
What our servers hold
Maenun connects your devices through a private encrypted network. Our coordination server has to know which devices belong together and how to reach them. For that it holds:
- A random group identifier, created the first time you add a device. It groups your devices and is not linked to your identity.
- For each device: a device name generated from its model (for example “Maenun-F5-4d76”), its public encryption keys, the private network address we assign it, basic technical details reported by the connection software (operating system and software version), the public internet address it is currently reachable at, and when it was last online.
- A note that you asked for more devices, if you tap that button in the app. Only the fact and the date are kept, with your group identifier.
- Server logs: the internet address, time and type of each request to our servers. We keep these for up to 30 days to keep the service running and to stop abuse.
Device records are kept until you ask us to delete them, or until a device has been offline for 12 months. Backups of this data are kept for up to 30 days.
The relay
Your devices connect to each other directly whenever they can. When a network does not allow that, the encrypted traffic passes through a relay server we operate. The relay forwards it without being able to decrypt it and does not store it.
What stays on your devices
Your device list, the pairing keys that let your devices trust each other, your settings, and the app log if you turn logging on are stored only on your own device. They are not sent to us.
Permissions the apps ask for
- Local network (Maenun): to find devices on your Wi-Fi when you add one.
- Photos and files (Maenun): only the items you pick yourself when you send them to a device.
- Notifications and background running (Maenun Host): to keep the device reachable and to show that it is.
- Wireless debugging (Maenun Host): an Android system setting that you turn on yourself. It is what allows the paired device to show and control the screen. You can turn it off, or remove a paired device, at any time in Android’s settings.
Who else handles the data
Our servers run on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure in South Korea. Oracle hosts the machines and does not use the data for its own purposes. We do not sell or share data with anyone else, and we disclose it only if the law requires us to.
Your choices
- Deleting a device’s card in Maenun deletes that device’s record from our server at the same time. If that is not possible for you, write to maenunmirror@gmail.com with the device name and we delete it within 30 days.
- You can ask us what we hold about your devices, or ask us to correct or delete it, at the same address. Depending on where you live you may also have the right to complain to your data protection authority.
Children
Maenun is not directed at children under 13 (under 14 in the Republic of Korea), and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
If this policy changes we will post the new version here and change the date at the top. If a change is significant we will say so in the app’s release notes.
